Herbal Formulas
When a physician sees a patient, they will usually ask what their chief complaint is. Western medicine will most likely prescribe some type of pharmaceutical medication to alleviate this symptom so the patient feels better. But…what if that symptom keeps coming back? Keep popping pills?
Herbal formulas, although it can treat symptoms, is aimed to treat the root cause of a condition. However, Dr. Shin believes that herbal formulas are only a supplement to acupuncture treatments. It is important to utilize both practices of receiving acupuncture and taking herbal formula throughout the week. Herbs are viewed as food in Chinese culture. It is almost always safe to consume, unless the patient is on certain or multiple medications (Warfarin, Coumadin, Aspirin).
Herbal medicine has been known to treat a wide range of conditions from skin (psoriasis, eczema, acne) to hormonal conditions like PMS, infertility, menopause, to digestive conditions and respiratory problems like allergies or autoimmune diseases. However, it is important that when starting an herbal formula, the patient should take it consistently to see its full effects.
